I've always loved numbers. As a child, I can remember how much fun it was to fill out that Girl Scout Cookie form as I sold boxes of deliciousness to my family and friends. Every day made me more motivated and determined to reach my goals.
As a business owner, have you ever wished keeping up with all of the key numbers in your business was a simple as filling out a Girl Scout Cookie Form?
As a business owner, maybe the only number you are tracking is revenue. Or, you find numbers overwhelming, because expenses and receipts and tax information make your head spin.
Knowing what numbers to track is key to building a profitable business. It not only gives you a goal or destination to shoot for, but it makes you aware of areas that need your focus so that you can make...
The tool I use daily to organize my life and my business is Evernote.
After 17 years of drowning in piles of paper and struggling to implement a system where I could easily store and access information, this tool had a tremendous impact on my life when I started using it in 2013.
Evernote allows you to transform your physical filing cabinets into an online system that you can access from any device. If you've ever spent hours looking for that ONE piece of paper, you'll appreciate Evernote's search functionality which gets you to what you need with a click.Once I set up my Evernote Notebooks with categories such as home, auto, tax receipts,...

One of the things I love about being an online business owner is all of the connections I've made with other online business owners.
I met Mark Struczewski, a.k.a. Mister Productivity, in an online networking event for Kajabi users.
(Haven't heard of Kajabi? It's the awesome platform I use to run my business.)
Anyway, in this online event, I was sharing that I left my corporate training and coaching position in March of 2020 to launch Banish Business Clutter, focused on helping business owners reduce physical, digital, and mental clutter.
I was thrilled when Mark reached out to connect, because we share the same passion for helping others increase productivity. I mean who wouldn't want to connect with someone whose domain is misterproductivity.com...
What is Clutter?
When you hear the word "clutter", do you just think of physical clutter? A messy desk? A pile of paperwork? A room in your home that is disorganized?
According to Merriam-Webster, the verb clutter means... to run in disorder; to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness.
I think Peter Walsh explains it best when he said,
“Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor. It's anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.”
In 1995, I was a newlywed and a music teacher who launched a home-based business as a side gig. (Long before the term "gig economy" was a thing.)
Over the next 20 years, that business ended up changing my life and the life of my family. I could go on and on about...
We've all felt the effects of being disorganized.
When we don't know where things are, we lose time looking for them.
When we don't have a plan or system, we miss out on opportunities.
Losing time and opportunities often equates to losing money.
But, the effects of clutter... clutter being anything that impedes movement and reduces effectiveness... actually goes beyond losing time and money.
In our 4-Day Banish Business Clutter challenge, it has been amazing to watch. Like-minded business owners are coming together and forming a community with one goal... to reduce clutter.

Many have admitted that they are overwhelmed and stressed out by clutter and they no longer want to be held back by physical clutter,...
We've all had challenges that we want to overcome and one of the first steps to overcoming something is to identify the cause.
So What Causes Clutter?
According to Barbara Hemphill of the Productive Environment Institute, “Clutter is postponed decisions.”
Why do we postpone decisions and allow things to build up until we are BEYOND overwhelmed from all the clutter?
I believe it's because at that moment we are lacking two things.
A Plan and A Place
Have you ever forgotten to follow up with a business lead? Maybe you wrote their name down on a Post-It note and you found it 2 months later in a pile of paper? (I won't dare ask for a raise of hands on this one.)
If you had A DESIGNATED PLACE where you kept your lead list, and A...
