What is Clutter Costing You

We've all felt the effects of being disorganized.

When we don't know where things are, we lose time looking for them.

When we don't have a plan or system, we miss out on opportunities.

Losing time and opportunities often equates to losing money.

But, the effects of clutter... clutter being anything that impedes movement and reduces effectiveness... actually goes beyond losing time and money.

In our 4-Day Banish Business Clutter challenge, it has been amazing to watch. Like-minded business owners are coming together and forming a community with one goal... to reduce clutter.

Many have admitted that they are overwhelmed and stressed out by clutter and they no longer want to be held back by physical clutter, digital clutter, or mental clutter. Recognizing the need for improved systems and habits is an awesome first step.

The other day I asked a question in our group because I wanted to know more about how clutter negatively affects us each and every day.

Here was my question...

If you could only choose ONE WORD that describes how clutter makes you feel, what word would you chose?

As expected, many said...

  • Overwhelmed
  • Stressed
  • Tired
  • Frustrated
  • Exhausted
  • Discombobulated (and I thought only I used this word!)

Some of the responses went much deeper. And I realized clutter is costing us more than we think...

  • Anxious
  • Inadequate
  • Agitated
  • Incompetent
  • Paralyzed
  • Failure

Anxious? Inadequate? A failure? I deeply feel the weight of these words, don't you?

Please know that clutter does not define you or your value or your giftings.  It's just "a thing" that requires you to make a decision. Instead of being overwhelmed by ALL you need to do, just take that first step in determining a PLAN and a PLACE for your clutter to go.

Knowing how our emotions and feelings affect our daily decisions, our relationships, our ability to impact others, THIS is why banishing clutter in our business and our life is a valuable investment of our time.

When we don't deal with the clutter, it's costing us...

  • Our physical space
  • Our mental health
  • Our time
  • Our schedule
  • Our motivation
  • Our finances
  • Our relationships
  • Our confidence

Creating systems to reduce clutter will help you maximize your time and increase your opportunities, but it will also encourage, empower, and equip you to fulfill your passions and your purpose.

Don't let clutter cost you another cent... physically, financially, or emotionally.  Take that first step to banish clutter, because YOU are worth it and because what you do and offer impacts others and THEY are worth it.
