How to Accomplish One Big Goal in 12 WeeksJan 13, 2022
Let's talk goal setting.
If you are like me, dreaming is fun, but setting goals that are specific and measurable and coming up with the actions that will help you achieve your goals can feel overwhelming.
- How will I stay focused?
- How do I prioritize my time?
- How do I stay on track?
These are just a few of the questions that creep in when you start to set goals.
One thing that helps me is to break down what my most important goals are that I want to accomplish. Maybe I have a BIG goal that needs to be broken down into 2 or 3 smaller goals.
Breaking it down to that ONE goal is key. What is ONE thing that is going to move the needle and cause the greatest impact in my business?
And that's my first tip...
- Tip One: Choose ONE goal
Let's say your goals for 2022 are to launch a new course, add 1000 people to your email list, and launch a podcast. The actions needed for each of these things are different and working on everything at once means projects take longer and often with less than desired results.
It doesn't mean you can't work on more than one thing. But, staying focused on ONE BIG GOAL allows you to put all of your efforts into one place which typically leads to better results.
But, how do you stay focused?
- Tip Two: Set-up a 12-Week Sprint
A 12-Week Sprint is about attacking one big goal with purpose and intensity, FOCUSING on 12 weeks at a time by planning out every detail you need to accomplish that goal.
It is a very impactful activity and a way to keep your mind and actions focused. If the goal is too big for 12 weeks, break it down into four 12-week segments then prioritize them.
- Tip Three: Review and adjust each week
Once you've determined your goal and made your plan, now the real action starts.
Writing down your priorities each week and then evaluating your progress at the end of each week allows you to make adjustments as needed so you can stay on track.
- Tip Four: Keep Yourself Accountable
One of the most effective ways to reach your goal is to tell someone what it is!
Planning with someone and having weekly check-ins with a friend or team member will increase your results because it keeps you accountable for doing what you said you will do.
